About
Kittu Hoyne is an emerging visual artist working across photography, videography, and digital manipulation, often accompanied by original soundscapes she composes. Her practice explores feminine energy, portraiture, myth, and fairytale, and their interplay with nature and the physical world. Her work A Portrait in Frequencies was exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW, The Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre as part of ArtExpress (2022). Salt Song was presented in the Whispers and Roars Festival, celebrating young female artists and showcased at the Australian Theatre for Young People (2022). Her film Retrace won Best Film Composition at the Bloodfest Horror Film Festival (2019) and was screened at Bondi Event Cinemas.
A key influence on Kittu’s practice is her background as a classically trained vocalist and performer. She has performed with Opera Australia in The Magic Flute at the Sydney Opera House, and appeared as a junior soloist in Sydney Chamber Opera’s world premiere of The Howling Girls, directed by Adena Jacobs, with seasons at Carriageworks (2018) and the Tokyo World Arts Festival (2019).
She is a member of The House That Dan Built, directed by Danielle O’Keefe, where she co-devised and performed works including Tender Young Creatures and SALT, with performances at Carriageworks, Vivid, State Library of NSW, and the Art Gallery of NSW. She was also a performer in ASSEMBLY, a major video artwork by Angelica Mesiti representing Australia at the Venice Biennale (2019), and a featured performer in Joanna Dudley’s operatic video installation We Will Slam You With Our Wings, which has been presented internationally at the Singapore International Arts Festival, Fotografiska Berlin, Illuminate Adelaide, and Ten Days on the Island.
Alongside her artistic practice, Kittu works professionally in digital marketing within the corporate sector, specialising in content creation, user experience, and interaction design. As a recent graduate of the University of Sydney, she holds a Bachelor of Interaction Design and a Bachelor of Marketing. She studied classical voice under Maria Timofeeva and has trained in the Suzuki method of actor training. She is also a music educator with the Toy Choir where she participates in holiday outreach programs across Australia, partnering with local schools to provide intensive music and composition workshops.
